I'm currently under a fair bit of pressure at work (the old credit crunch and all that) and I'm coping reasonably okay. My coping technique tends to be my imagination. I imagine that if my missus were to call me at work and say: "one of the kids has been hit by a car so get to the hospital asap" - would I still be concerned about work pressure? The answer is, of course, 'no', because it puts things into perspective.

Also, I tend to ask myself "what is an absolute worst case scenario and will I still be alive if that were to occur?" Generally, the answer is 'yes' to such a question - again, it brings some perspective.

Anyway, am always interested in other techniques on handling pressure so any advice / thoughts gladly received!

This may sound 'airy fairy', however I offer it to you as it helps me.

When I feel stressed out I turn my attention to others and how I can help them. By trying to be of help to other people it both helps me to get my problems into perspective and it gets me out of 'self'. When I'm wrapped up in my own problems I'm no use to man nor beast.

So, by helping others unselfishly, without expecting either gratitude or something in return, I help myself.

hippy

Trying to do that consistently is a right bd though. hehe

A good session of Muay Tai sorts me out. A few kicks to the head and I forget what I was stressed about!!

I kick toddlers really hard.

Which reminds me, I need to get to bed as I'm at the employment tribunal against the nursery tomorrow.

don't sweat the small stuff.

a colleague and friend once told me that if it isn't going to affect your life in three years time then it's not worth stressing over. wisest words i have ever heard and have saved me many a grey hair.

Tai chi and meditation give me a generally calm character and I can use associated techniques when I get stressed. Most of the time, when I get riled, I just roll my eyes or laugh.
