Question for a sparky or someone who knows electrics...

I'm putting up 10 fluorescent light fittings. I'm going to give them their own circuit off the consumer unit. Each has 2x 58watt bulbs.

If memory serves, fluorescent fittings have a much higher draw than their running rating when first switched on.

Can anyone advise what amps I should cater for when selecting the cable and breaker switch?

IIRC the ballast inside will tell you the initial draw?

Er, yes, on a quick search looks like it is. I'll have to check the rating on the existing lighting rings...

ETA - ah, Part P notification is for "work in dwellings including any greenhouse, conservatory, porch and car port open on at least 2 sides." This is a commercial workshop, so exempt...

depends on how much old colour wire you have spare, and when it was fitted. Honest Guv

Strangely enough it doesn't cover Log Cabins, so my 40" x 20" cabine is excluded and its not a dwelling

If it's supplied from a meter within a dwelling it is not exempt.
