Has anyone seen one in white in the flesh yet - if so whats it like?

Has anyone driven one yet - if so what did you think?

I have read the reviews and am going to look at a black one in the showroom tomorrow but I would like to hear the thoughts of real people.

Thanks

A few on here have had a look at the showroom demos, and I think a couple of people have driven them on the continent.

I posted in one (or maybe both) of those threads - in real life I think it's a nice looking car, the styling works a lot better than the pictures suggest. But I felt the interior felt a bit cheap, bearing in mind that all the showroom cars in the UK are the top spec.

edit to fix links.

Thanks Jamie. I have just seen some of the other threads after posting.

Disappointing to hear the negative comments, at the moment for me it’s a toss up between the MiTo and a Mini. I know the Mini is more money but works about the same on funding on either a lease or PCP due to the residual values.

Have a look over on alfaowner.com if you haven't already - they've got a section dedicated to the MiTo and this thread:

...has a load of people's opinions, most of them positive. thumbup

hmmmm same comments over and over again by the sounds of it.

my concerns at the moment are the size of the wheels and the steering feel.

Time will tell

The black hole of Calcutta sums up the rear seat accomodation in the example I saw.

I'm guessing you've never seen nor sat in the back of a Mini then?!

I have had two Mini's before... the mk1 BMW Mini if you like. And the only think I can think of with less room in the back is a 911.

Well I would go for it in white i think with the 17's but only because i dont like the style of 18's.

Steering feel is a big thing for me and worries me if its going to be very dull. Plus all the finance quotes are coming out at silly money as the residuals are going to be weak.

I do however love the look of it and think its going to carry a good image. I also love teh look of the 500 but the standard models are all abit "girly" and the abarth is a bit to hothatch, young lads racer if that makes sense. Dont get me wrong it looks the dogs nuts but just not the look I am looking for me.

That then brings me back to the Mini Cooper, which although will be more money the finace packages are still good, it is classless and unisex. In the right spec it looks ok to. Not as handsome or pretty as the fiat and alfa, but none the less a good looking motor with the right wheels and colour etc.

I saw one in black with a red flake through it, I thought it looked far better than it does in pictures and far more interesting than a mini. I hope to get a test drive in the new year.
What about a Grande Punto Abarth? I like my GP sporting a lot and I would hope that the Abarth would be even better.

Yeah I want to drive one but you cant get behind the wheel of one until the end of Jan. I am going to need a new car pretty soon so I need to order something in the next couple of weeks.

I agree the Alfa looks much more interesting.

The Punto just doesnt do it for me - I dont know why.

I have owned a mk2 mini and may agree that legroom is no better than mito but visibility is much better.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
The CAP Monitor which is the expensive data source from which leasing companies derive rentals predicts the 3 year 60,000 mile residual value for the Mito will be 47%.
The Mini in the same listing comes in at 48%.
CAP monitor costs a fortune and is derived by extensive assessment and testing of the product, therefore it is rarely ever inaccurate.

The mini figure is based on experience the mito is an educated guess. It would be interesting to review Caps other estimates eg Fiat Bravo, Alfa 166.I have owned three Alfas and resale was nothing like 47%

Best not judge the Mito residual performance against other alfas like the 166.

Saw one last week and I think the Mito looks great in the metal, and importantly its exactly the sort of car that should increase in popularity in credit crunch times. Good looking, bit of flair, but not too expensive and should be pretty cheap to run.

A lot like a fiat 500, which seems to be holding up residuals wise. Who would have guessed that if they had just looked at the residuals for the marea...

Gents I may agree with all your comments on residuals however, after a weekend of playing with numbers and talking to dealers re financing, the Mini dealers are much more confident and the GMFV is stronger than the Alfa, hence you can get a 2k more expensive Mini and still be paying less a month.... although all that said this is not about retained value.... if the Alfa had really won my heart I would pay another £50-75 a month for it...

After looking at the Alfa on Saturday tho I just cant see me buying one over the Mini, yes its better looking, yes its more exclusive, yes its Italian and not German and as such will have some soul. The Mini with the right options just feels better built and a nice place to be inside.

I hate saying this, because to just stand and look at the Alfa is very nice, and when people ask you what you drive I would rather say the Alfa to the Mini.... but as a premium little car that I have to live with every day then I almost certain it will be the Mini for me and maybe the Alfa for the Mrs. in 12-18 Months time.

just seen a white one today in vienna pretty cool, if not a little contrived. my son (joseph aged 10) thought it looked like a new fiat 500. not sure why though!!!

Still not sure what I think of these, I would love it to be great but I hear many negative remarks about the steering and thats always been one of Alfa's strong points, even more modern machinery like the 156/GT had a fantastic rack.

I hope they correct it should they ever produce a GTA version.
