Radiators and the choice thereof...
As part of the extension the kitchen is becoming a lot larger, having an open plan feel with dining room leading off of it plus a reasonably large french door setup at one end. The "opening" between the dining room and the kitchen is about 3m wide by 2.5m high.
The Dining room will have a standard DC panel radiator below the window - the kitchen would ideally have 2 vertical radiators, one at each end of the room.
Questions are:
Is it OK to calculate the BTU needed for each room as though it were a single room? By my calcs (or at least those of the website I used...) dining needs around 5000 BTU, kitchen nearer 8500 BTU
Will 2 vertical radiators with a total BTU equal to that of a single panel rad provide the same heating effect?

It makes little difference if you calculate it as 1 or two rooms...
I personally would calcualte it as a single room...unless the wall/ceiling materials are different between the two "rooms"...
Have you thought about fitting under floor heating?.... Much cheaper to run....screwfix have been doing some pretty good value kits with mixer stat valves etc

yeah I thought about it, but after looking into it it was going to be too expensive and too much hassle to retrofit into the existing system. Materials are different between the rooms, I was more concerned with the split of the radiators giving a reasonably even heat throughout the area.I personally would calcualte it as a single room...unless the wall/ceiling materials are different between the two "rooms"...
