Bush pardoning himself and his boys for war crimes

The clicky links to a story about the pardons and how Dick Cheney has 'coughed' to authorising the torture.

I wonder how this will run over this last month of GWB as El Presidente

Hopefully he will go to a country where they are more interested in justice. If they are innocent what have they to fear?

Not sure if that was a snappy come-back or some 'dig' suggesting I was one one political hue or another.

This isn't about being anti-american in the sweeping pseudo-racist way that is sometimes seen on t'interweb.

The big bit of news here for me is that the decisions taken by the leaders of the Land of the Free have more than morally compromised the whole concept of being 'right' on the field of battle and have totally fked a whole heap of soldiers, sailors, marines and airman.

Yes - Saddam, the Viet-Cong and the ChiComs in N Korea tortured captured troops...but where is the moral high ground if we do the same or worse?

I have friends that would have loved to do to PIRA what they did to others - or even indulge in a spot of waterboarding back in the 80s...or so they joked - as they all admit that it would have merely openned the floodgates to the recruiters of The Boyos.

There is a whole heap of difference in some harsh tactical questioning in the heat of battle - let's face it, if I had just bombed someone and then got shot down, I can't see the survivors being too pleased to see me - but the systematic abuses personified by Extraordinary Rendition, Guantanamo and Abu Grahib have done untold harm to the West.

The reason for the 'rules' is to keep the leaders of nation states in Check - so that they do not descend to the gutter as they can be personally accountable. Nuremburg showed the world that.

It's kind of hard to hard behind the troops if you are the one that signed the Presiential Finding.

If he had the courage of his convictions, Bush would front it out. He and his have crossed the line. they knew it then and the damn well know it now.

Good job Blair has a competent lawyer as a Missus (he wasn't much good himself I understand) in case they come after him too.
