Apparently making a come back! Jeez these things were objects of pre teen & teen alike when i were a lad, 37 now.

I remember my 1st a yellow & blue Raleigh burner. Blue frame & yellow mag wheels (plastic). I thought i was the dogs mate.

Then it got serious & some of my mates started getting diamond backs with trick foot pegs etc.... doing stuff i could only dream of.

Film as well with a young Nicold Kidman, errr....BMX Bandits?

What was your 1st, which one took your cherry?

By the way i left all that young nonsense behind a year or 2 later and got into speed. Nah..........racers. smile My best ever was a Bianchi in a sort of bluish greenish. AWESOME bike, cost me hundreds in summer jobs, paper rounds & begging usually grand parents.

Raliegh Rampar for me. Managed to get hold of an original one this year as i lost mine many years ago. Second hand old school BMXs are worth quite a bit now, and with this resurgence they may go up in price too smile

My first one was an old Huffy - bit like this...

Weighed a ton. Then I custom built one to look a bit like a PK Ripper - complete with landing gear forks, redline crank etc...

Brilliant thread -check out

www.vintagebmx.com you'll spend hours wondering how many paper rounds it would have taken!!

I good mate of mine used to buy up old BMX components from distributors and build "new" old school BMX bikes for people - regularly sold them for £1000+

Even had the Wheatus (teenage dirt bag fame) tour bus turn up at his house in Romford so that the lead singer could pick one up!!

A few of my mates (late 30's) are still riding SE 24" bikes and competing in the veterans class - also great fun riding a 24" BMX through some mountain bike single track!!!!!

I think a few of you will remember this catalogue! I carried it around with me for the best part of a year.

One christmas I was given the Red Burner (with original circular frame) - heavy as a battle ship! But it slowly got tricked-out over the years smile

Layback saddle, CM handle bars, race plate, Bear-traps, mushroom grips, trick-nuts....

Had an imported Redline RL400 in about 1983. Was forced to sell it in my teens frown looked sorta like this, with Skyways, CW bars, etc, 'cept it was blue with blue wheels.

Currently got a WeThePeople Thrillseeker that I picked up when my PhD got funded, Use it when riding with my son on his Likeabike.

It's actually been big for a while, it is just that it is more mainstream these days and rather than 'proper' bmx types you get chavs riding them as well. I used to work within BMX retail and it has just been getting bigger and bigger for a while. My mate is a pro BMXer who does quite well on the world stage.

As for old school customers *shudder*.

The boy over the road who I looked up to had the exact same machine. I had the smaller-framed Mag Burner.

I always wished Santa would bring me a 'bent-back seat post' as they, along with 'trick nuts', were the thing to have.
