Speed Cameras for Trains?

Wasn't sure if this should go here or in Speed, Plod and Law!

However the other day I was sure I saw a Gatso bedide the railway line, and having seen lookd at it several time since it does look like a speed camera!

So fro anyone that travels on the East Grinstead or Uckfield line, have a look out of the window as the train travels south just after it leaves the Brighton mailine and on the building there you will then something bright yellow that looks just like a speed camera!

Anyone in the railway business know what it is?

It can't be a speed cam!

For one thing, they know which train is where at all times. It's all on a big puter screen!

It may not be a speed camera but it looks like one!

I wonder if they have a problem with train drivers speeding at certain locations!

Yes, they do have speed cameras for trains usually portable though. A lot of newer trains have GPS monitoring also.

I know a train driver and he often tells me tales of him and a few other 'drivers going out and flinging a tyre over these cameras, they then fill the tyre with petrol and set it alight.

He also tells me they have a website, bebiboo.com or something, to help get 'drivers caught speeding by them, get off their fines...

OTMR...... on train monitoring is the only speeed camera req and does a good job too..... no need for external camera's

I'm sure I recall an advert on the TV in the early 80's in which BR encouraged us onto the Train with the slogan "You'll never get done for speeding on a Train."
IIRC it used a Train painted up in Jam Butty livery trying to stop a express train.

The railways employ speed cameras (or HMRI do) to monitor areas of restricted speeds, through junctions/entrance to stations etc.

Have seen them out and about before now. The Gatso camera is probably just a Sandite Applicator/Leaf Fall Detector.
