I am flying out to Brisbane with my girlfriend on Wednesday and would love to fly first/business class but not yet won the lottery.

Does anyone know what i could do to blag an upgrade, does the 'we're getting married' trick work? can you actually do it? has anyone done it before?

You've probably got more chance of winning the lottery tbh. If the search function is working have a look for a thread that was running a few months ago.

Best of luck though! smile

BA will often move you up to club or first if you croak it on-board, might be worth a try. Less permanent would be to buy a ticket in the first place though.

I heard that if you wear a comedy beard and claim to have a bomb they'll let you straight into first class. Love a joke those airline types.

Yes, it's well known and pretty much guaranteed to work.

It's an urban myth that these sorts of upgrades are ever available if you dress smartly/ask nicely.

Unless you pilot for the same airline then forget it.

To first, maybe. To upper class/business, happens all the time. Hardly an urban legend.

EDIT: when I say 'all the time' I dont mean every flight, but I know lots of friends who have landed upgrades over the years.

We told our travel agent it was our honeymoon when we booked our trip to Oz and asked them to make sure Emirates knew (we got married 6 months before, but it was sort of our honeymoon.)

They upgraded us to business class for the first sector - worth trying it on.

I've been upgraded on at least half of the longhaul flights I've had in the last 5 years, for at least one fo the legs, usually the return for some reason. But it happens less often nowadays than maybe 3 years ago.

We were upgraded from Business to 1st by BA on the way back from SanFrancisco last week. 4 people from Business were invited to upgrade.

Not overly-smart just a regular Business flyer. He gets upgrades quite a lot.

BA have always upgraded me and I've only ever got to Silver. On our Honeymoon we were upgraded on 3 long haul legs out of 4. Having said that think the arse has fallen out of the blagging game recently as the staff know your upgrade could = their bonus. As a result I'd say we're in a upgrade drought.

I can see what you're saying and that might swing for people with status traveling economy or premium economy but naked blaggers will have no chance.

Ok - when I say always I mean that I historically (10 years proof) have a better than evens chance of getting an upgrade. Don't ask me why because I don't know. They were even good enough to send me a new silver card this year when I'd only earned 10% of the necessary tier points.

Don't be stupid, Curtisl was asking a serious question. Telling him to dress as a monkey is ridiculous and cruel. By now everyone knows that unless your'e thrusting your pelvis towards first class passengers, hands placed on hips and singing "Hammer to Fall" by Queen, then the monkey suit means nothing.
