Door Micro switch

Hi All

Micro switch on passenger door has packed up (the arm has gone AWOL) The replacements I got hvae 3 connector pins on them whereas the broken item has only two. Anybody know which pins to use or have I ordered the wrong switch?

What switch did you order - part number?

Part # M0222 from power, described as multipurpose microswitch. Had a look at several sites and they all looked the same with power beeing the cheapest.

I dont know the switch in the car or the power one but sounds like you've got a SPDT (single pole double throw) and you originally had a SPST (single pole single throw)

Are there any markings on the switch?

I would expect to see 'COM', 'NO' and 'NC' close to each connector. (COMmon, Normally Open, Normally Closed). When the switch isnt pressed 'COM' would be connected to 'NC'. When the switch is pressed 'COM' would be connected to 'NO'

Initially i would connect one wire to 'COM' and the other to 'NO'.

Thanks, I will get the multi-meter out tomorrow and check the switch out and see what's what. I will have a look at the markings on it too and see if this tells all.

Yeah the above sounds right messed about with microswitches alot

Dan, do the arms that opperate the switch clip in place or are they fixed? I was wondering if I could clip a new arm on the old switch, as its not a simple unplug the old switch as its hard wired, I will have to cut and solder to the tabs, not difficult but a PITA.

Best using new switch if you can. It may take a while but will be worth it.

Update: Switches from Power were too big to use on the door! The correct (exact as the part # is on the switch) replacement can be purchased from RS-componants for about £5 + P&P Part# is 83-186 and its the last switch on the list of 5 with the 0.92" flat arm on it. Now to wait for RS to open again.......
