Change religion to the Jehovah Witnesses they don't celebrate Christmas. It would save a lot of money.

I'm being a tight bd this year. It will amount to about £30-40 for the family, everyone else can go swing.

I have realised that I'm getting through money like water, and I need to rein it in.

Sounds spot on to me .... why be caught up in the whole materialistic christmas thing?

Buy people things that show you have put a bit of thought in ... anyone that get's pissed off that you haven't spent enough is missing the point.

A few (ok ... maybe a few more than a few) beers and some good food with friends and family that you wouldn't normally see and that's a good job well done

Since my son is now two-and-a-half, and gets great pleasure from helping to make things, we've gone for the home-made option this year. Home-made chutney (picked by son, stirred by son, etc.), home-made fudge (more help), home-made sweets (more help), home-made christmas cards (mostly him, with help).

The family will think this is fabulous (and since the must-invite-from-my-family list at my wedding came to over 120 people, I have a lot of family to keep happy), and he will get spoiled rotten in turn for being such a clever boy.

And, in the current climate, it is admirably parsimonious!
