Is it possible to get something "interesting" for under £100? I have not got around to replacing my old bog standard watch that broke about 3 months ago and I fancy something different that you wont find in a high street store.
I like the idea of a retro/vintage type design, new or old but still usable everyday, Can be digital or analogue
Not really sure where to start looking as I don't know what sites are reliable or what makes are any good or whatever so I am hoping you guys can help me even if its quite a lot under your usual budgets.
Thanks in advance.

My stock answer is Seiko 5, really cannot be beaten for the money. Do an ebay search, plnety of reputable dealers. Anywhere between £30 and £100.

Bit of sales touting going on now, sorry, so please delete mods if not acceptable.

Or you could have my Orient Star but I want £130 for it, maybe 18 months old with box and papers.

Have a look around and you could find a Seiko Monster* for under/around £100.

I paid less than a ton for mine.

And at that price it reall can't be beaten in my mind.

  • Get a black face, they look nicer. The orange is the one everyone gets simply because "its the one everyone gets". Black shows more class winkhehe

That has a compass built in! How cool. Or is that a 24 hour hand?

Oh, Werners have interesting watches for <£100. They've sold a lot of stock for Christmas so you might want to wait a bit.

Both! According to the instructions if you point the 24 hour hand at the sun the comapss is correctly lined up.

That's odd. So basically all 24hr analogues are easy-read compasses (I know you can do it with normal watches).

That's my understanding, yes, as long as you have the compass dial of course.

Well, I guess you could just remember 0/24 is north.

I've posted it before, but I was the same and bought one of these:

Seiko SNK809 - very inexpensive from one of the ebay sellers in the far east, there's a few variations of it if you don't like black. And it's an automatic, if that appeals to you.

And I have the blue variant of that, they are very good for the money, clean look and very comfortable.

Any of these would also qualify as unusual for a new watch

That is very nice, if you still have it in a couple of months I'd be interested, but have no spare cash at the moment.

Postie bought me this today. £89 from the bay (auction pic) and a bit of an impulse buy. To be used as a daily driver and something slightly less formal than my other pieces.

Fantastic bit of kit, I'm really pleased with it - although I do now realise that I probably could have scored it a little cheaper. Hey ho, damn that buy it now nonsense.

Very solid, comfortable on the wrist and impressive in an understated manner. Recommended.

Love that watch. So much that I ordered one and got to pick it up from the sorting office tomorrow! Got it in the "lux" edition which should life the watch even more.

Fair few vintage omegas seem to go for round the ton mark on ebay.
More timeless and desirable than something from werners imo.
