Hi,

Putting this on for a mate. He's baulked (understandably so I think) at the main dealers fee of £400 for what is basically an oil change, so is going to get it done elsewhere. The main dealer refuses to tell him how to re-set the service interval indicator. Can anyone recommend a site where it details how to do it? It's a 2007 XJ.

Cheers.

Does he just want an oil chnage or is it part of a service?

If it's just an oil change get it done somewhere reputable but ensuring it won't invalidate the warranty, as it shouldn't. The same could be said for a service but that may well affect resale value or being able to trade at a franchised dealer.

£400 seems very steep, even from a MD. I know the oil is likely to be nearly £150 from a dealer but £250 for labour! Has he had a couple of quotes from different dealers?

Supplying your own oil to a main dealer is allowable and cheaper too.

If he's anywhere in the south east, try Gatwick MD. They have pretty good rates.

  • i hope i havent broken any rules by posting the name?*

Cheers for that.

Yes, he did get another quote which came in at £350. It's the 15,000 mile service so IIRC it's basically an oil change and a couple of filters.

Will let him know about the Gatwick outfit.
