Trying to decide what to do for New Years Eve.... I wanted to try and avoid doing the regular- get drunk in town, end up in some appauling club playing cheesy music....

So I was thinking about making a mad dash down to the Capital.... Possibly park on the outskirts of London and get a tube into the middle...

Have a few beers sat on the river bank watching the fireworks...then head home...

Does this sound like a really daft idea? Is there actually anything worth seeing?

Im comming from the West...so where is best to park? Where should I aim to go in London for the best atmosphere and view of the pyrotechnics?

Yes. You'll almost certainly regret it.

bks to London or any other city for that matter.
Last year a mate and I walked over rain-lashed Scottish highlands to the UK's most remote pub, eighteen miles from the nearest road or seven miles by sea.
Greatest pint of Guinness (ironic I know) I've ever tasted.
(and then there was the group of six nurses jumping naked off the jetty at 8am next morning)

Any of the bridges I guess - Vauxhall and hungerford are popular ones.
How long do you anticipate it will take you to get in and out on London on NYE ?

Inverie perchance? God's own country the whole of the West Highlands!

Why bother parking on the outskirts and getting the tube? The tube'll be rammed and the roads will be empty (at least on the way home).

Avoid London. Have a party at home or something.

Yep. We agreed on a grid reference to meet at (the end of the nearest road), stopped over in my mate's VW van on the night of Dec 30th, then struck out over the hills at around 7am on the 31st. Fecking crap weather and we did wonder if we'd actually get there. But once past the half way point obviously the decision was made, and the weather improved quite a bit. Got to Inverie around 5pm.
Camped on the beach along with a few other nutters.
Far, far better than paying 30 quid to get in to some stty nightclub where Stella is £10 a bottle and the wimmin are second rate X-factor stunt doubles.
This year we're off to another unique pub.
