Being ill at Christmas!

Don't you just hate it! I was still struggling to get into the festive spirit up to the weekend, but since then, my cold/man flu has been getting worse and worse, christmas is just days away, my wife has gone out on her own to finish the shopping, and i'm pretty fed up feeling like crap, not being able to do anything and of the coughing, sneezing and general acheing all over.
What's worse is this illness means i can't really go near our baby daughter for the time being

Are you usually under a bit of pressure?
I used to find I was ill at Christmas and during holidays when I was under a bit of pressure at work...basically, I think the pressure of the job wards off minor illnesses and puts them on hold until you relax a little!
Regardless, yes, it sucks.

I've been in a bad way for the last few days, but I'm passed the worst of it now.
The most effective stuff I have found is DayNurse and NightNurse in bottled form. Between doses I've been drinking green tea sweetened with manuka honey.
Kleenex Balsam tissues are also excellent. I've been blowing/wiping my nose constantly all day and it hasnt got sore or dry at all.
A good computer game that demands concentration helps keep your mind off it.

Yeah i suppose so. Quite a bit of pressure at work and i was balancing that with my wife's pregnancy. When the baby was born, i took extended leave and only went back to work last week, just for that week. I suppose you could say come the weekend then, it was all out of the way, more time off over xmas to enjoy with my family etc, so you could well be right in it all having built up and then released. I was thinking i'd gone back into the office, there'd been quite a few other guys off sick etc and i'd just picked up the germs when i'd gone back.
Who knows.... either way it sucks big time!

On another not one xmas (I was about 15 at the time so not that fussed anymore) I walked downstairs, opened up a few presents, spent the next 45 mins puking and then continues opening presents.
I was well hungry by dinnertime.
Still no idea why to this day, didn't feel unwell/overexited at all.

I think the stress of the year is catching up on me too. Money trouble, (lack of) relationship, friend's suicide etc
Dunno whether I'm imagining a personality change in mum, but she seems to be different somehow, she claims she is fine, but the atmosphere seems different. Her writing is unchanged, but she seems a bit slower on the uptake over the last month or so. Hoping its just me having distorted perception. The stress is enough to give me dandruff and hair loss and skins become really sensitive all of a sudden. Grr.

Yep I'm holding off til new year if I can. I know they have a big influx of flu cases and don't want to burden them without cause. Mum is type 2 diabetic, but from what I know her sugar levels are pretty much always within the satisfactory range. I *think* mum and dad both have a joint appointment for a regular checkup tomorrow morning, so I'm going to try and find a way to ask dad if he can mention something.

He fell ill at a motorway service are and taken to the local hospital. Turns out he has pneumonia and is looking like he is there for Chrimbo. Wife and 4 kids 150 miles away.
