Inspired by the "pointless work" thread my mind drifted to a couple of hours time when I can make my way home via the pub.

I love this place, old-school beams and oak bar with pictures from local artists and pictures of the town how it used to be on the walls. Good beer and good company.

Been going there for 8+ years so now have been awarded the following "privileges":

- Don't have to ask for a drink when I go in, it is served automatically and will be refilled as soon as it is empty.

- Free jukebox credit (plus ability to skip tracks if anyone puts terrible music on via hidden button accessed by reaching over the bar).

- Bar-tab facilities (cash machine is half a mile away and cards not accepted at the bar)

- Occasional pint "on the house"

- Free food if theres anything left after the kitchen closes (they cook jacket spuds, roast beef etc in advance and share them out if any left).

- Lock-in status

Anyone else have similar or better? I love my pub cloud9

Yeah my old local used to speak to me as if I was six years old. Until I bought this up with them then got barred. (I was fairly drunk at the time)

Don't think that beats how good yours is, but its close

Ozzy,

I truly envy you; for a couple of years now I've always wanted somewhere to call my 'local' the pub and its privledges sound like heaven!

Yep, used to have lock ins in the club we frequented several moons ago.

Do remember leaving there at about 9am, one new years day.

As it was a club, we had free entry and free cloak room too.

I sound quite tight reading this again.

Free drinks for us on Christmas day; in return, we keep the place profitable during the year and we're usually there on New Years Eve too. They'll automatically pour a pint as soon as I go in and we get quicker taxi service into town.

The best use though is having proper locals around e.g. discount plasterer, free plumbing, leccy advice and the fact that we know most of the local youth through the landlady's son means my car has never been vandalised.

I managed to get to lock-in, queue jump and priority service at a regular place, and the rare but amazing line clean, where you drink free beer with just a slight taste of caustic soda, but then the manager chain broke up. Previously we'd always known who was in charge, and who would take over, but then one day some new guy turned up out of the blue and everything was lost.

It's a terrible feeling to have to move on to somewhere new, hoping it'll live up to your standards, but we got there in the end.

Still need to work my way in more, like a hungry tick.

Yup I can claim those at several bars and pubs round my way.

Although I have paid most of their mortgages off, and kids through school, in my heavy drinking days.

I have at least one pub and a couple of restaurants that I can walk into and they know my food and drink order and have the drink on the bar / table before I get there.

My friends are also impressed that I can walk into a very busy "in" bistro locally and the owner will give up his table and move his guests for me.......... in fairness it's because we are all girls and he thinks it's good for business but.... who am I to quibble ! ?

So can I, but it's a city centre pub tongue out Do get the occasional hiccup when new staff start, but there's always 2 or 3 folk on anyway, so usually someone who knows us bar flies.

Tick

- Free jukebox credit (plus ability to skip tracks if anyone puts terrible music on via hidden button accessed by reaching over the bar).

Happily no juke box or one armed bandits or music or TV, bliss.

- Bar-tab facilities (cash machine is half a mile away and cards not accepted at the bar)

Cards accepted and can draw up to £100 like a cash machine.

- Occasional pint "on the house"
Yep, often.

- Free food if theres anything left after the kitchen closes (they cook jacket spuds, roast beef etc in advance and share them out if any left).

Loads as many customers bring stuff as well.

- Lock-in status
Yep.

And 10 real ales on tap all the time.

  • bill paid monthly
  • occasional free drinks
  • immediate recognition of my "usual"
  • occasional free food (varies from an old cheese sarnie to plate of oysters depending on circumstances)
  • closing time is based on us paying the bar staff for a cab home if it goes on after public transport.
  • should i pass out they leave me on the couch 'till morning
  • when i wake up i am given coffee and asprin!
  • The wife would not let me test drive any barmaids even if they were accomodating to such advances ....

Having a landlord with character is part of the pub though - the best all have their various proclivities.

I recall the time my landlord chucked a bloke out for using bad language in front of a lady - they were both in the pub for the first time - didn't know each other at all but were getting increasingly pcensoredd, loud and disturbing everyone else.

After he ejected the bloke, she hung over the bar and asked him why he'd shown the bloke the door.

In a whisper he replied, "If you don't know, you'd better fk off and find somewhere else to drink too", went round the front and guided her out of the door. Only time I've heard him swear in a woman's presence.

Might sound a bit draconian but he just didin't like either of them - the lads and lasses in there curse each other really frequently.

Same landlord barred someone else I know for having a ginger girlfriend!!

Legend!!
