im looking for a hp toutch hd on a 12 month contract, and i want to keep my existing number.

can anyone reccomend the best place to go? all the online ones i have looked at make you include bloody insurance, which i dont want

you can probably cancel the insurance. I just did on a handset with no problems.

I think its exclusive to Orange. Have you checked their webby?

I think this is only until the end of the year.

Isn't the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 essentially the same phone?

I was looking at getting one of these and it was on the Gadget Show last night which confirmed this as my next phone (replacing N95), but I can't upgrade till feb so have to wait as I want to keep my number... frown

Does look an awsome bit of kit, just hope the windows software is better than the Nokia software.

Nope, the screen res is the same IIRC but the X1 has a hardware keyboard.

Windows Mobile IMHO is a good operating system, however you will probably have to tweak it a bit before you get it how you want. This is both a strength and weakness of WM as it is so customiseable and you have to almost treat it as a computer with a phone attached. That said, I love my X1 and think it is great.

When you get your Touch HD then head over to www.xda-developers.com as they have a great forum and if you have a problem which they can't solve then you're truly screwed..... wink
