Bit of a challenge
Discussion
I'm after a bit of help with the identity of my mini. I bought it in Oct 07, its an 89 flame but its had a cooper conversion kit added as part of the 30th anniversary. The problem I have is I believe the kit was added at the cooper garage as part of a limited run for 89 to mark the 30th anniversary before the cooper conversion kit was released in 1990. I've found a few articles from that time about the anniversary edition but other people I'v spoken to have said I'v been "had" the question is who is right? I have all the history of the car dating back to when a lady on the Isle of white traded her mayfair in for it back in 89 I have every MOT certificate even log book which is a bit much for a "fake" I thought, even the normal cooper logos on the rear panels replaced with a logo the was the same style but a 30 in the middle john cooper garages across the top and anniversary across the bottom. Sorry for the essay I hope someone can help me.
I do seem to remember that John Cooper was producing 'Mini Cooper' kits for the 998 Mini before the 1275 Cooper was launched. Most of those kits went to Japan, or so I believe, but they were sold here. So it looks as though you have one of the Uk ones which was fitted with this kit. It comprised, i think, a gas-flowed and skimmed head, a pair of 1.25" SU's on an alloy manifold and an exhaust system. As it was not necessary to take the engine out to fit this kit the cam remained standard Austin-Rover.
I don't know about the badging, however, and I guess owners fitted whatever they thought appropriate and this probably included early Mk.1 Mini-Cooper badging.
I bet it's a nice little engine if it has that kit, although a 'proper' cam would make it go so much better.

you could buy the kit in a nice wooden box to fit yourself.
ive seen a few mini 30's that had it either fitted or supplied on the back seat as a conversion.
ive always fancied a red 30 with the cooper kit - one of the nicest ltd editions IMHO
a mate of mine had a black 30 with the kit and it went very well.
