looking to buy a Escort RS turbo
Discussion
Which are you thinking of buying?
Series 1 or Series 2?
On all models look for rust, previous accident damage, water ingress to cabin, ID "issues" (VIN tag and/or VIN plate in floor missing)... loads of other things such as worn turbos, hot start problems, modifications not set up correctly, worn seats...
Give us a clue what you're buying and I'll be able to advise more specifically.
Great car though if you buy the right one. Nightmare if you get it wrong.

Probably best to ask also post your question up on either http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk or www.passionford.com
Loads of RS owners there who should be able to give you the sort of info you're after but also have a look/search through some of the older/archive posts there & that should also help you out

Lot of reshells kicking around, or transplants into 3i shells
They can be expensive when they go wrong (and they will go wrong) and its probably not going to be a daily driver if you need to get where you're going. On the occasions they do work it's brilliant fun.
As said, rust is going to be the biggest one to watch
You'll also find a fair few ZVH's as the CVH turbo block is getting a bit harder to find in standard form that'll take a rebore
