Burgled at Christmas

Oh joy. Just finished clearing up after a visit from some of society's undesireables.
The house was empty for a few hours this afternoon, while we went shopping in Southampton and mother-in-law looked after the children. Despite the fact that there were still two cars outside and lights and the radio on inside, some little s
t put in one of the living room windows and, when that failed to gain him entry, drove his car across the garden and used it to smash the front door.
Never thought I be on the receiving end of a ram raid. At least they appear to have been in and out fairly quickly and thankfully were gone by the time anyone came home.
What did they take? The 10-year-old midi hi-fi from the living room and a few thousand pounds' worth of jewellery, watches and so forth.
And one of the key-cards for my wife's car, which means I need to get the locks changed and the ECU re-programmed. Tomorrow.
And a toy Police Range Rover. With no tyres on it.
What did they leave? All the Chrismas things - Heaven knows why, maybe because they were well hidden to keep them from the children. My £2k bike, the spare house keys, the £350 that's pinned to the wall in the office waiting for the gardener to come and collect it.
A few good footprints, oh, and some blood. Quite a lot, actually. Did you know that CSIs do a little dance of happiness when they find blood at the scene of a burglary? Nor did I. But they do, or at least ours did, anyway.
So, my wife will have bad dreams for weeks, the children get to play at taking one-anothers' fingerprints and I'll have to be restrained from lamping every pikey I see for a while; and, with a bit of luck, the DNA will produce a match, and we'll get to go to Court and see the little turd in person.

Look after yourselves and yours - and stay away from me if you look a bit shifty.

Really sorry to hear that.
I've been burgled and my kids were (still are) worried that the burglars would return. Mine (under ten) were told that they were caught and put in prison - turns out that was true actually, but it brought them easier nights sleeping.
Let's hope you don't have to take your insurance company to court as I did with mine.

Man that really sucks. At least on the upside they didnt take the chistmas presents so you dont have to go through the agony of getting it all again.

Absolutely gutted for you mate, i couldnt begin to imagine what being on the recieving end of that would be like, so i wont even try.
glad to hear it hasnt 'totally' ruined xmas, as so long as you can put a smile on your kids faces thats what mainly matters.
if the blood does bring up a match, be prepared to offer to help obtain yet another sample, from the scrotes nose and mouth (and if you can then the ears) just to be doubly sure theyve got the right.
this sorta thing pisses me off. And how someone could do it this close to Christmas.... just makes you think what sort of people are in our society.

A few years back the mrs got home and tried to open the door but she could'nt get in because the chain was on. While she stood there confused she saw two people run down the hall and out the back, She was sure she recognised one of them as part of the 'family of lesleys'. no not a joke 7 of them all called lesely who were 'placed' accross the road. Door still boarded up from the last raid on the house.

They asked if she could possitivly ID the guys and this is where she made the mistake. She said she was not sure but thought it was. that was that end of story. I never got my presents

It does seem like they were in a rush - the stereo is about the only readily portable thing of value(ish) that you can see looking in from outside, and the jewellery was all in a couple of boxes and two drawers. They even took the drawers to carry it in. They appear to have looked in every drawer in the house, but left all sorts that I'd expect to be taken.
It looks as if they twigged that they were bleeding all over the place, make a quick attempt to clear it up and then pushed off quickly.
That's three strikes this year: my grandmother's house was broken in to back in the spring, and my parents' caravan was pinched from their back garden - every cloud... - in the summer.
Heigh ho. Living well is the best revenge, or so they say.
