Not so much about strong, but you should probably choose Ibuprofen for muscle injury - maybe in gel*

  • I am not a Doctor but I've seen them going about their work so I know.

You probably want to end up with ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine/dihydrocodeine in some combination.

Which combination, and whether some or all, depends on a few things, not least a couple of bits of your medical history, your attitude to side efects (especially drowsiness for driving if you're off visiting and Christmas spirits if you're off drinking wink ) and what your pharmacy has in stock.

You'll be better off asking at the pharmacy rather than on a car forum!

FWIW, I am a pharmacist.

He he he... yeah but that would defeat the actual point of P&P

He's probably got a broken neck too. I forgot to say that bit.

best thing i found over the counter was paramol - paracetomel and di hydrocodeine, taken alternately with ibroprufen 500mgs, numbed the worst toothache i had ever known, the pain being so bad i was looking for emergency dentists at 0400hrs on a sunday 100 miles from home!

Depending on your answer above there may well be other things you can try.

Have always found paramol to be pretty good, its a combination of paracetamol and dihydrocodeine(spellin?), and you can get them over the counter at most pharmacy's. had a bad absess in a tooth a few years ago, and although dentist gave me anti biotics, i had to get some pain killers, and these were what the pharmacist recommended, hope this helps!!xmas

I have tramadol knocking around somewhere but I don't think it's over the counter. Everything is a bit hazy I can't quite remember.

Nope, tramadol is prescrition only, so co-codamol (sold as "solpadeine" OTC) is your best bet - each tab contains 500mgs paracetamol (the same as a standard adult paracetamol) but combined with 8mgs codeine. Usually they are tolerated well altho you may feel a bit drowsy on them. The stronger versions of co-codamol with 15 or 30mgs codeine per tab are prescription-only products.

The vodka option is Ok but you'll still need the co-codamol the following morning..

Go and see you local chemist/pharmacist. They will be able to help you and can give you some seriously strong pain killers if they think its required, without having to bother a doctor.

I'd go with Paramol over the counter...am currently 'on' several (it's numbing the pain of working) co-codamol, by several I mean half a dozen wink. But prescription only.

In which case the likelihood is that you simply slept awkwardly and one of your joints has seized up. The muscle spasm is your body trying to protect against pain, but it'll stop you getting the joint moving again.

Take whatever painkillers and anti-inflammatories that you can and get it moving as much as it's comfortable. Heat (ie a hot water bottle) should help, particularly if you lie on your back with it under your neck and gently turn your head from side to side.

It's probably more sore to turn your head one way, in which case try and stretch it the other way (IYSWIM).
