it just unscrews - get some big mole grips and wrap something around it to protect it ...you just need some strength wink

Make sure you really wrap it up to protect it as I managed to scratch mine with the mole grips even though I have covered it well (I thought!).

Its got some locknut stuff on it so once you've broken that it comes of nice and easy.

I removed my gearknob a while ago.

One tip I would give is to get some heat on it to negate the effect of the loctite - I used a paint stripper(cautiously i.e from a distance) but a hair dryer would do it at a push(take ages though).

The general consensus on SELOC is to go to B&Q and buy a special grip tool kind of like a noose made of rubber. (can't find it now on either seloc or diy.com). They're about 9 quid and save you scratching the metal.

What you actually need is a strap wrench.
Halfrauds should be able to help.
Oh and check the front of the knob for a hidden allen grub screw.
My S2 Exige has one.
