As a kid I followed the Apollo missions with as much enthusiasm as James Burke himself. I still vividly remember, as a 13-year-old, staying up until 3am to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the moon live. I quite surprised myself, when I went to see the Saturn V in 2005, by getting quite emotional about it - it actually brought a lump to my throat and a little tear to the eye to see this masterpiece of engineering that actually took human beings to the moon.

Also, don't forget that today is the fortieth anniversary of that picture. Surely a candidate for "Most <something> Picture Of All Time"...

Is that the one that they used to keep outside, or a different one? It has been a long time since I was at KSC, 1981, we went to watch the first Shuttle launch which we missed by two days because it was postponed!

Only just seen this - Fantastic Pics. Am reading a great book about the Apollo missions, called Moon Dust, and as i wasn't born till 13 years after the first Moon Landing i can only judge what things looked like by seeing pics like this. Really makes me realise it wasn't just a case of cruising to the moon.

Would love to go and check it out for myself one day.
