I use our local Post Office come newsagents most days and they also deliiver my daily paper. They provide good service and we have a daily joke and moan. There is just the post master and 2 women who cover the till between them.

As my 'paperboy' is in fact a 65 year old man who comes and goes in the early morning I popped in to leave his Chrimbo tip ( a bottle of wine) at the shop, and thought I would extend my appreciation to the staff at the shop/post office by giving them a bottle. I was expecting them to have a tipple when the shop shut at lunchtime today or pool it with whatever else they had been given and then split it.

You would have thought I had asked the woman behind the counter to let me eat her first born child when I passed over the bottles.

Basically she complained that they were not having a Chrimbo drink after work, couldn't pool it and that the post master was likely to end up with it, whilist all the time looking at the 'Staff Christmas Gratuity' box covered in wrapping paper (which I had seen her make when I was in a few weeks ago). Innthe end I just said I was sure they could sort something out between them and left.

I know she may have preferred the cash in the box to split (and I don't know her financial circs) but surely form of the tip I provide is my choice, not hers. It was a decent bottle that cost me about £7 and the most I would have put in the tips box was a couple of quid.

I don't thinki I will bother again.

please, do feel free to send all gifts this way.
Obviously, being pigeon holed as a "northern monkey hehe" I need all that I can get.....

on a serious note; you did well in leaving the bottle and leaving.
i would have said something. i can't help it. i'm offering you a gift, an un-expected gift that shows I have put time and effort into it!

Unlike suddenly dipping into your back pocket for some loose change, whilst waiting for her to find my cigs; "IT'S THE ONLY SILVER BOX ON THERE!!!!" good grief woman, "the silver box... no, silver - that's blue" smile

Next time give her a dildo and a tube of lady lube. Then take a photo of her face and post it here.

They aren't recovering alcoholics are they?!

My mum has a stalker patient at work who buys her gifts at all holidays during the year. At Easter she got her a massive Easter Bunny hamper with 'Best Friend' embroidered into the biggest teddy I have ever seen and about £200 worth of Lindt chocolate! Obviously my mum isn't allowed to accept the gifts (and is not her Best Friend either!!) so they were just raffled for charity biggrin

Still, I'm excited to know what this year's Christmas present will be! Poisoned pen letter?!

Anything less than "thanks that's very kind of you" was fking rude of her and should have been mitigated by taking the bottles back.

It's always a shame when these "misunderstandings" happen, but they do. Don't let it put you off, just try harder next time!

I think that's a bit harsh... just spit in her face.
Nah, stand on her head after shooting her 30 times in the chest. Just to show 'em you mean business.

Next year take them three bottles of your home brewed urine wine, nicely corked and presented. Then they can all have a little tipple after work.

I thought that was reserved for innocent members of the public?
Nah, I'd just be letting her off easy for that one.
