How much does stress cause cancer?
Discussion
Ok been to hospital, I have a lump and it is border line. I have to reduce my stress and smoking! Ok smoking I understand but stress!!! So how much does stress contribute to cancer? Ok so I have family problems (like lots and they don't even give a flying F***k that thier grandson / newphew has relapsed) yes my son has relapsed and is in the 2 months of 6 months of intensive chemo (he is 9) so it is pretty hard. But my brother has blamed me that he has relapsed and my the rest of my family can't be bothered! So the stress level is high! So does this contribute to me having cancer?

The evidence seems to support the fact that certain types of stress can increase the likelyhood of cancer. A possible reason for this is that chronic stress can reduce the capability of your immune system. I'm not sure there is any concrete evidence about what the causes of cancer are. Mine was never looked into really, it could have been Genetic (Mother had the same thing 15 years before), Environmental (I'm surrounded by chemicals at work on a regular basis) or stress related (I'd had a very stressful year workwise and was just about to get married when I was diagnosed).
To be honest, I didn't really care and was more interested in whether I was going to get better than what caused it! Fortunately that happened, but I'm a firm believer that stress is a factor and the more you can do to remove stress from your life, the better things are healthwise.
Good luck with it though.

Some people can smoke 300 fags a day for 90 years and not get lung cancer. There is no rhyme or reason to it.
There are so many factors including many that the Docs and researchers don't even know about yet, that sometimes you just think "F*ck it".
However, there are many that are well known and documented, such as diet and smoking, but as the word cancer covers such a multitude of diseases and all have different causes and issues, it's difficult for lay people like ourselves to really get a grip on it.
Common sense rules though.
Sorry to hear about your little one and yourself. That must be heartbreaking seeing someone that young going through it.

I dont know the answer to your question, but am sorry that you are going through such things in your family and now maybe with you.
Stay as positive and as strong as you can do though, for both you and your son.
Life deals some crap blows at times. But staying as positive as you can will very much increase your chances of getting through this.
Merry Christmas, fella, to you and your family. Fingers crossed for you all in 2009.

Low levels of adrenaline are actually healthy but prolonged periods of increased levels of adrenaline cause the immune system to become less able to deal with various ills. Its recently been discovered that the human body produces around 100,000 potentially cancerous cells each day which are normally destroyed by the immune system. This process seems to be hindered by increased levels of adrenaline.
Right, this isn't a 'who deserves the most pity' thread - this is relevant and you'll see why. My mother died last Christmas from a number of cancers which was originally detected about six years ago. In the year leading up to her passing I spent a huge amount of time researching what cancer is, how it grows and spreads, as well as obviously desperately trying to find out anything which might help.
What I quickly realised is, that there is an almost infinite amount of cancer related infomation and supposed cures out there, 95% of which (I feel) are more dangerous than being just bvllsh!t. Due to gradually filtering the crap out, I eventually found two sites which were dependable for solid, scientifically proven information.
At first, they may look like some health site or other but PLEASE trust me and get to know these web sites inside out.
The DCA Site:
http://www.thedcasite.com/index.html
Grouppe Kurosawa
http://www.grouppekurosawa.com/
Now, about the stress factor in cancer, check this:
http://grouppekurosawa.com/blog/2006/10/psychologi...
Basically, when the body is stressed it produces more hydrocortisone (a hormone) than usual - this has been proven to allow the cancer to grow more rapidly. Additionally, glucocortisoid hormones (glucosteriods) prevent cancer cells from dying naturally ('apoptosis'). So here are two processes which combine to increase the growth and spread of cancer, one of which is stress related AND scientifically proven. It's almost self perpetuating - a diagnosis of cancer leads to more stress which leads to a growth in cancer, etc, etc.
Now, about these sites - DCA is a cheap, readily available drug which has shown HUGE promise in the treatment of a wide range of cancers. This was discovered about three years ago by a greek doctor at the University of Edmonton in Winnipeg, Canada. He suppressed this news for a couple of years while he carried out more tests, but when he went public there was a huge reaction.
This drug, DCA (Dicholoracetate), cannot be patented because of it's so easily produced so the general consensus by right thinking medical professionals is, that this cheap cancer cure would decimate the pharmaceutical industry. Anyway, now you can get DCA direct if you want it, or you can have it prescribed and undergo other cutting edge treatments at Medicor in Canada: http://www.medicorcancer.com/DCAtherapy.html
Unfortunately, DCA wasn't appropriate for my Mum's cancer due to it's highly aggressive nature and the fact that she wasn't comfortable about taking it when she could have, due to her fears relating to side effects and it's non prescribed nature.
About Grouppe Kurosawa - this site was set up by Dr. Steve Martin (no, not him, another one) who has dedicated a lot, if not most, of his time to researching severe illnesses and how they can be treated without resorting to deadly therapies like chemo and radio theray, for instance. It might seem at first like the front of some b
ks new age therapies web site but once you understand this man's credentials, his research and the amount of investment he has made in having research carried out by a very highly respected independent research organisation: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ which is basically a US government department.
It's really important to sign up for the blogs, one of which is free: http://grouppekurosawa.com/blog/ and the other is a subscription only. The info in the free blog is fantastic but for anyone looking at alternative, progressive treatments for cancers, leukemia, HIV - I'd say the paid for subscription is a must.
Seriously, if you only ever take advice once from someone who only passed their test in 2005, then PLEASE familiarise yourself with the above sites. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
