Advice required re 2001 model C240 Drivers seat....

Thanks for reading, and I hope somebody can offer an insight into this:--
As I was getting out of the car today, the drivers seat seemed to make a popping sound, the same happened when I got back in to the car.
About 80 miles later I arrived home and found two black plastic clips under the seat.
The clips look like rather large pipe clips. They have a curved recess in the middle and a hole towards each end with an opaque plastic plug for each of the four holes.
I have attempted to push them back into what look like the apporopriate places, but the plugs appear too small for the holes that are in the underside of the seat.

The base of the seat can now be lifted up a bit at the front end, but appears otherwise stable and solidly hinged at the rear of the seat.

If anybody can advise how to remedy the situation I would be grateful.
