I think you are mis-informed. When they leave the factory the boxes are new.

The regs say only one reconditioned item, and that is normally the block.

Edited as it appears I've been misinformed ... the gearbox is indeed a new item and the engine is the reconditioned part.

My 2p's worth.... some registration centres count the engine and gearbox as one unit not two and thus if they are fully reconditioned you are fine.
It really is a game and the factory know what the rules are and get it sorted for you during your build to prevent any nasty surprises at registration time.

When I got my SVA and new reg, (3 years ago) it was a points system. IE you could have so many second-hand parts as long as the total points didnt go over the total. EG engine, rack, gbox, main body. Mine was a "used" engine and gbox, and was well in the points number.
Edited by Stig to say: Best advice is to have a chat with the factory. They are bound by the SVA rules as much as any of us but, they have a lot more experience in terms of getting cars through. If you try and pass a nail, it'll fail.
