Electrical help please - no power
Discussion
Merry Christmas All. I am out of options now so any advice would be greatly appreciated. A few days ago when trying to start the cerb the battery was struggling. My charger seemed to have died and after a bit of messing about the alarm kicked in and would not go off. It was only the back up alarm that was sounding.
I have since fully charged the battery and when re-connecting I am getting absolutly no power to anything. I have tried two other batteries and still no life.
I have checked the two 100 amp fuses in the engine bay - both ok. All fuses seem to be fine. Even when connecting jump leads I'm still getting nothing.
I'm no expert when it comes to electrics but I can't see how there can be no power when connecting a perfectly good battery.
Does anyone no if there are any other resets, main fuses that could be blown.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Barry

It does sound like a blown fuse does'nt it. Is there a separate ignition fuse? Checked?
Have you tried arming and dis-arming the alarm once the battery is connected? It might be immobiliser related. Or at least alarm related.
I'd get the battery tested aswell to make sure its not a dudd. Then all the earth points and leads.

A few things may be going on here. If the siren chirps, but does not sound continuously it's a warning sign that it needs replacing (iirc it's the internal backup battery that goes). If you don't replace within a reasonable time frame, one day it will start sounding and you won't be able to turn it off.
When you re-connect a battery, the alarm auto arms itself and you need to clear it with your fob as per usual. You need to make sure the clamp is properly seated on the battery terminal otherwise you will not be able to clear the alarm. The final thing is that the TVR key fobs do not press straight down on the internal micro switch on the circuit board within them, which means that they too eventually expire by breaking the button. If your key fobs have been getting less and less effective and you've been pressing harder and harder on the button to make them work, this is a sign they're going to die on you. Fortunately there is one man who can help you with all your alarm ills - Carl Baker 07720723407 (www.tvruk.tv).
Merry Christmas,
Steve.

Thanks for the input guys.
There is a master ignition fuse but all the fuses are ok.
I have tried three batteries because I think the one I had on is goosed, but no difference.
I have also had the remote apart and it's ok.
When connecting a battery I get nothing - the alarm lighr on the rear window, and the one on the dash aren't even flashing.
Steve, you mentioned the back-up alarm - this has already happened and as I couldn't get it to stop I just had to let it run, so It's sounding like it may be something related to that.
I'll take your advice and give Carl a call. Everybody seems to talk very highly of him. I'll maybe leave it for a couple of days. Don't want to bother him at X-mas
I'll le you know how I get on. Thanks again!

He called me back whilst he was on his honeymoon; Boxing Day? Pah, just another day in the office I'd guess.Top chap.
sounds like the problem i had with mine which turned out to be a fault with the siren which burnt out the alarm box.
i had to break in to the car and disconnect the alarm, which had a burn mark on it(as predicted by Carl baker)then take the car to Carl who fitted a replacement alarm.
as said Carl is the man to speak to.

Well guys we have an update.
Was going to call Karl but thought I'd leave it until today and spent most of yesterday trying to remove my wheel bearing that had fused itself to the hub.
After removing the hub, whishbone and ball joints, cleaning everything up and re-fitting along with the new wheel bearing, I decided to pull the still dead car out of the garage and wash all of the dust off.
In typical TVR style while I was washing it the alarm gave a chirp - both doors popped open and the lights came on...It's Alive!! Must have just needed some TLC.
After carefully re-connecting everything that I'd had apart it even turned over, and fired into life.
I was able to re-set the alarm and although I dread to say it everything seems to be working perfectly.
I think that the most likely explanation was the back-up alarm/siren. I had left a battery connected for most of the day so maybe that had re-charged the back up. I''l still give Carl a call and get his advice.
Thanks again for the input.
