Can someone help a technophobe please. My 9 year old son has had an Ipod Nano from Santa today, but Santa didn't tell mum or dad how to transfer music from the PC to the Ipod. Can someone walk me through it please. This is what i have done so far, but can't seem to find the track on the Ipod.
1. Connected ipod via USB to my PC running XP
2. Opened my computer and double clicked on the (H) Drive Ipod
3. Opened my music folder and copied a track then pasted it into the Recordings folder in the Ipod drive.
4 Opened the Recordings folder in the Ipod drive and the track is there.
5 Tried to find the track via the ipod and no luck.

Read the instructions.
And you need to download itunes. Then you can follow the on screen instructions from there.
You need itunes to convert the song to the correct format for the ipod, what you dropped in there is probably wma which is not do-able.

Download iTunes from http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/ and import your music to iTunes. You should then easily be able to sync it with your iPod.

Is there anyway to do it without Itunes? I don't want that on my PC.
My son has it on his PC, but i have a load of MP3's on my PC he would like to have.
There are programs but it's generally a ball ache. The other way you could do it is...If you have USB Stick, you can just put all the songs on there then he can use itunes to put it onto the Nano. My son has it on his PC, but i have a load of MP3's on my PC he would like to have.
If you don't have a USB Stick...Then use the Nano like one, dump all the songs on there, take it to his pc, move them back onto the hard drive on that pc, then use itunes to put it on the pod properly.
If he wants your tunes burn them to cd / memory stick.
Put that in his computer load them onto his pc.
You cant do it without itunes so you have do download that.
Import all the music from the stick/cd to his computer.
Take out stick/cd as all will be on his comp now.
Import them into itunes.
Plug in Ipod & it'll sync the songs in the itunes to the ipod.
HTH

I may be overplaying the technophobe card, but i am no genius. I really don't want itunes on my PC, so i think i will just burn the MP3's to a disk and transfer the music to my sons PC that does have I tunes installed.
Thanks for your help guys, this is exactly why i wont have a damn Apple, they are as compatible as a square plug in a round hole. Grrrrr

Nowt to do with compatibility and everything to do with reading the instructions. It's a bit like moaning that a diesel won't work on petrol. After all, they've both got cylinders, take liquid fuel, and go brum brum. Thanks for your help guys, this is exactly why i wont have a damn Apple, they are as compatible as a square plug in a round hole. Its not complicated you're just being difficult. The ipod/interface is famed for its simplicity, which is why they have sold tens of millions. Why are you different?
Oh wait..
I haven't said it is complicated, and neither have i said i am different.Oh wait..

What i have said is Apple is not compatible with anything other than Apple products, which i dislike. Now if you are one of those people that think Apple is some sort of community and belive all that marketing hype, good for you.
Never mind just have a merry Christmas.

I don't understand why you would not want to use the I tunes, think of it as wanting to put diesel fuel in your petrol car even though you have a petrol engine!
Reason is because it is not very good. It has limitations to use of files etc I understand your petrol Diesel analogy, but think of I tunes as a Diesel and i want a petrol.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
