Where'd the old boy go? People like Phil are the soul of SELOC. Not a banning or anything stupid I hope?

No ban, a lot of abuse posted a few weeks ago by a certain 'character'. There are lines to be drawn, but some folk just can't see them. Shame as its the decent folk who will jump ship first.

Just rise above it - if you don't agree with someone, then there are plenty of others out there that you can get on with. You can't be everyone's friend.

Whilst it's not pleasant it can be ignored and if you put in additional restrictions to those already in place then where do you draw the line? It's not as if we get enough moans on SELOC and here about nanny states, is it?

NB: DISCLAIMER - this is a general observation, if there is a particular event then I can't comment until I'm aware of it

CBA to post this on seloc, but it is a sad loss to the forum. Only ever spoken to Phil a few times, but in every instance he has been helpful, nice and a decent chap.

DAFL - I've read the nonsense, and that seems to be entirely what it is. Junks IS a thoroughly decent chap though, and I'm sure he'll still be around.

FWIW not all the information is available, its been deleted. It really is disturbing that some people think they can post any old rubbish up on the internet without considering possible victims especially decent folk, but heyho thats the cyberworld we now seem to live in..

Unfortunately Kevin if the vitriol is directed at you - you can't ignore it..

I've been called all sorts of names - if you don't want it, don't step up to the plate, just like real life really.

I'm happy it's a place where you can let off steam, although I've always given myself the proviso that I'd happily shake hands and have a natter with anyone in person. And for that I'm happy to defend free speech.

Funny old world isn't it?
I'd love to see both Junks (and another whose left over the incident) back on Selco along with Scuffers. Scuffers was eventually banned and yet others who I personally find offensive are still on (or were until very recently) Seloc. It seems that some posters both on here and Seloc seem to regarded these palces as some sort of Sim: not a view I share as I've met a fair few of you on here and on Seloc in the real world and regard the forums as an extention of our real world acquiantance and extend the approrpiate courtesies (whilst still enjoying the odd disagreement thumbup)

Agreed, I try to extend the same sort of courtesy that I would in real life. Happy with the piss take etc. What I find pretty inexcusable are people like rawr who will call people very nasty names. Now I'm big enough to have a go back if I so wish or happy to ignore them. I have named rawr as I have had a couple of run ins with him in the past.

It does get a bit wearing though and I can imagine quite intimidating for some.

I've always taken the approach that I'd never type something on a forum that I wouldn't be comfortable saying to someone in person. I am a relatively direct person and tend to tell it how I see it, but I do try to be mindful of people's feelings and never deliberately set out to upset anyone, unless I feel I'm under attack. One thing I realised very early on is that those who enjoy getting a rise out of attacking others are best dealt with by inaction. If they don't get a rise out of you, they'll get bored and move on.

No one who has met RAWR could be intimidated by him, at least not anyone over 6 years old. I think some of his posts are tongue in cheek.
It is a shame that banter gets taken to extreme, and becomes insulting.
Shame about Scuffers being banned, he knows whet he is talking about, even if he does piss some people off.

I've heard as much and to be honest I have been desperately looking forward to meeting him after some of the things he has said to me online.

I'm not suggesting Junks or any of the people who have met rawr would leave because they feel intimidated by him. The are a few ladies that have taken the brunt of his obnoxiousness which is just not on.

Scuffers if a loss, his "to the point" post make me smile.
