I know everyone is different, and different tastes appeal to different people, but can anyone explain why I prefer Irish whisky to Scotch?

I have tried literally dozens of different types over the years, and while I can appreciate how much smoother and more refined (and expensive rolleyes) the single highland malts are compared to the drain-cleaner blends that are Bells or Grouse, I would choose the £10 bottle of Jameson's over them every single time.

And I was bought a bottle of 15 year old Jameson's for christmas... I'm looking forward immensely to that!

Its Whiskey if its Irish. Quite partial to a tipple of Bushmills but not a fan of Jamesons. Its just personal taste.

Irish is triple distilled, compared to the majority of Scottish whiskies which are distilled twice. There are a few exceptions, typically Lowland malts such as Auchentoshan or Rosebank. (Rosebank cloud9 truly a reason to live).

Some might argue Irish are smoother because of this. Not really true. If you've not tried many decent Scottish single malts, then try some. If you like Irish stuff, maybe go for a nice Speyside malt rather that a heavy hitting Islay.
