I'm away from home and just thought I'd check stuff under the bonnet, without the aid of the owners manual. Now the coolant reservoir has a strange dipstick thing in it, which seems to be pretty much dry - this is presumably wrong, so what should I be seeing? Help, advice please!!

The plastic dipstick has markings on it and TBH its a PITA to read anything on it although it should not be dry!

I ignor the dipstick thing in the coolant recovery reservoir and check the level in the radiator itself(when cool of course) by removing the traditional radiator cap found under the plastic lid on the left of the radiator cover.

The dip stick works on the principle of a childs bubble maker, the holes in the dip stick hold a film of fluid in them denoting the level.
