Just got the Tamiya CR-01 chassis with the Toyota body and am looking for ideas on what hop up parts are out there? Thinking of a rock crawler motor but are there upgraded bead lock wheels, aluminum parts etc. Done the usual trawl of the web but anyone else here got one, and what have you done to it?
Cheers
Darren

From what I've read, it's a pretty capable crawler out of the box, just lock the diffs and get it out on some rocks, then see what, if anything, needs to be replaced.

I'm on ukrcrc.com every once and a while, check out what they have to say about the CR01.

I've just built one but modified it as I went along. I got some metal axles from RC Channel which are very cool. They slightly increase the weelbase though which doesn't look too good with the Unimog body I got for it. It also stretches the props a bit too much which is something I'll sort. I think the rear wheels are too far back as standard when the Toyota body is on so you might not want to go that way.
I didn't like the way the shocks were mounted so I junked the pivot arrangement. Straight from the axle to the chassis looks much more realistic.

When I've found some material I'll lengthen the suspension links and try to remove as much as I can of the cage that houses the motor.

I can't help with the hop up motor, I'm not as far as being able to run it yet!

ukrcrc is a great site to join for info, as is www.tamiyaclub.com (you can join the forums without having to pay subscription).
I got back into Tamiyas when I stumbled upon an old BearHawk on Ebay, and must have spent the best part of two grand on them in the last year. So addictive.
