Removing front brake pads, HELP!

As a post Xmas project, I have jacked up the sagaris to remove the front pads to eliminate the brake squeal.

I'm as far as wheels removed and retaining pins taken out. How do I get the pads off from this point?

They are too tightly held on to just 'pull', should I be undoing more bolts etc?

Any help appreciated!

Only held in place by the pins.

Suggest you try pushing back the pistons and wiggling the pads till they come free

Gave the pads a good tug and they came out.

Applied some copper grease tobthe fronts but squeal still seems to be there if a little quieter.

Possibly worth applying to the rears, or more to the fronts?

I don't think you will ever get totally 'squeak-free' as the pads are a hard competition compound which need plenty of heat to work to their best. A quieter squeak is probably the best result you will achieve.

Have you got anti squeak shims fitted? If not might be a good idea, i will be putting some on the rear of mine as they squek alittle. Fronts are fine.

You could always change to softer compounds if it bothers you more than stopping power. Shims will help more, too...

The stopping power is great, but we are talking about a seriousl loud squeal! Its on a par with a train whistle so has to be solved.

Don't have shims fitted, will try them and more grease - final option will be to replace with a softer compound

Try a louder exhaust to compensate?

If you've got any friendly owners in the area, you could try swapping pads for an hour or so to compare the difference in noise/stopping before handing over any hard-earned.

where do you get the shims from? Are there ones you cut up to fit? I did not get shims on the ones I bought and they squeel like pigs

Depends which pads you have. From memory, EBC will supply you with shims for free if you phone them up (fitting to be done yourself/at your cost).
