Saved the whole Steam folder before I formatted the drive, but can seem to gEt Steam back up and running.

Anyone know how I can get it back and up without losing my old save game data ?

TIA.

You're probably out of luck.

I've been round this loop before, and after much swearing and shouting, I ended up just downloading everything again overnight.

ETA: Sorry this is no help, but at least it might let you adjust your expectations.

Did you back up the games through the Steam console or just save the folder?

If you backed-up the games through the Steam console, you just need to download the Steam client, install it and then go into each of the backed-up games and there will be a .exe file for the restore.

If however you just backed-up the folder, you will need to re-download all of the games and then you have the option of finding your saved games from each of the folders and copying the files across (very messy).

CJ - I had a nasty feeling thats the way it was going......

DM - Im not sure TBH, just used the normal ingame save procedure.

My current Steam folder is about 16Gb, so there must be something saveable ?

If you have used the Steam back-up option then all will be well. Once the Steam client is installed and running, go into each of the game folders and run the .exe in there and the restore will start. Bare in mind Steam games are often updated so if Steam goes off to the internet for an update thats normal.

If you have used the Steam back-up option all should be well!

got steam on the old pc, think I probably downloaded the whole lot when moved the account to the vista pc

seems to be under valve on the games drive, 15.9 GB

the account is with the person and not the pc, so once bought, all the games will work and will be always upto date smile

I had the complete steam folder from my old pc on my games drive, not just the backups. Reinstalled the steam client over the top and job done - 2mins to download and install.
