A genuine enquiry, no doubt argued many times previously!

A mate has come into some money and desperately wants a TVR. He has £15+, possibly a further £5k to invest. He would ideally like a Cerbera, but has been put off by horror stories of servicing costs. Should he go for a Chim because he can't afford a Cerbera?, or are the servicing costs exaggerated?

What should he be aiming at for the price??

This would be better in the TVR gassing section, but still.

Chimeara: if you want the top down/ rover V8 sound track -btw whats wrong with Griffiths?

Cerbera: if you are sensible with your money (just in case), want the quickest standard sub 18k car and dont mind a roof.

Try them.

Griff is a middle aged man/womans car (not the best looking IMHO) fat ar$ed, not nice.
If you want class and style, think carefully what model the Cerbera looks like.

For that money I'd say, go for a Chim.

If he's comfortable with £20k-25k then think about a Cerb.

Other than that is down to whether he wants the wind in his hair or not.

Thanks for the replies, I think £20k is out of his league and he has no hair so that's not a real concern!!

His brain says Chimaera, his heart/b@**@x says Cerbera. He's out for test-drives in both this week

Whether or not I happen to like a paticular model of TVR, I remind myself that the owner likes it. Still, Simon Cowell thinks Sandy in Grease wasn't sexy, so I guess there are always oddballs out there.

I would say go for a griff!!! Chimps arent as aggressive! IMHO OK - if you get a chimp go for a 500.
They are generally (But no always) cheaper to run than Cerberas. If you are spending nearer 15K then you are into minefield zone ESPECIALLY with Cerberas.
Buy a car from someone off here who is known etc - pay a little more than autotrader, less than dealers BUT get a car with some confidence!

ps I have had both - a chimp 4.5 and a cerbera 4.5.
I woudnt have another chimp but I would have another cerb (forgetting the running costs that is).

Stupid question:

Why are cerbs more expensive to run than chims..? How much more are we talking of..?

I always thought there was a vague similarity between them... Of the engine models for cerbs, which is the cheapest to run..?
