We are ready to buy the Spousal Unit her last company car before we get rid of our construction companies. Does anyone know anything about these cars as we were in today doing our research at the dealer and she really likes the XF where I was more impressed with the V.P. We would like opinions on the Winter Mode selection as it seemed to work good in the snow today but it is not 4 wheel drive. Started out smooth on a steep hill and didn't have slippage to my knowledge. Salesman said it doesn't start applying power in first gear while in that mode. Was happy but not really impressed as I am used to 4 WD vehicles in the winter and snow. Does anyone have any info on the 4.2 litre V8 concerning reliablity???? Or on the supercharged version of that motor.. We had the supercharged version out and when we did get out to the dryer roads the car handled and preformed to the level that I expected. We want to get one last car at the companies expensive and a car that should last her 7 to 10 years. In the summer her man car I hope, will still be her V8 Taimar so I expect she can stay under 10,000 KM per year on the Jag. or whatever she gets. One thing that does bother me about the Jag. is that Ford doesn't own it anymore....Any other suggestions about other cars in this class would be greatly appreciated. We haven't been to the Merc dealer YET as I know that I may get swayed towards a SL roadster ( we already have 3 1970s TVRs) but Spousal Unit will like the 4Matics and the CLS series. Please help with any info.

In my opinion, the XK SV8 is better than anything in it's class from Merc, BMW or Audi, as you pointed out it goes quick and handles well, the intertior is great. I wouldn't be worried that Ford doesn't own Jag anymore, Ford isn't exactly in a strong financial position and Tata are one of the richest companies in the world. I don't have an XF (I have spent some time with one though) but I have an XKR, the engine is the same and in almost 2 years of ownership has been completely reliable.

Hope that helps.

John.

Hi Wayne. Being a UK resident not so sure on the 'winter mode' trac control. But as far as the car goes, it is indeed a fine bit of kit. The 4.2 V8 has been around for ages and is a very good engine so no problems there. What you might want to know is that from Spring next year, a more powerful/updated version of this engine is set to be released. It will be a 5.0ltr V8 which will go in most Jaguar and Land Rover products. So you may want to hang out for that, for when ever it arrives over there.

As for Ford not owning Jaguar, I don't see the issue. Ford is effectively bankrupt, and Jag's new owner TATA is one of the richest conglomerates on the planet. What the future holds no one knows, least of all car manufacturers in the current economic climate. But the XF is a winner for Jag.

As for other marques, not to familiar with MB, whether any of their saloons come as 4 wheel drive. Audi's do, if you fancy a RS4/6??

In the end you buy the car you most like to be seen in/drive. If thats an XF so much the better! wink

Happy shopping.

I have worked for Jaguar and the XF is a stunning car. All the engines are fantastic and in my opinion the diesel V6 is the best diesel around.
The SV8 is sensational. With the sport mode and paddle shift gear change the car handles and performes brilliantly. Now working for Mercedes I have taken a liking to the CLS. BUT I still favour the Jag overall. Black with Ivory leather is a nice combination too. Go get one!! Good luck

IMHO the XF does not look good in black. It hides all the cars details. XF's suit colours better.

First I've heard of the new diesel. So does that mean the 2.7 is getting ditched, and there will be two new 3.0 options?

It looks that way, lower emissions, more economical, quicker and about £3k more, why keep the 2.7 ?

Was involved with the launch of the XF .... drove, handled and saw 5000 cars.
BLACK is definitely the most desireable colour when its clean. All the colours look great at different angles and at different times of the day. At dusk the emerald fire looks stunning.
The cars are let down a little by the wheels .... the SV8's are the only ones IMO that suit the car and give it the right stance.

They are very nice cars indeed, well designed (especially under the skin which a customer won't ever get to see), drive very well, responsive, nice equipment, interior that has some unique features .....

I was not a fan at first, but having spent a LOT of time with the cars grew on me and I would definitely consider these above THE GERMANS - Buy British, he says with a 911 & an A3 on the drive - but I do have a Jag as well !! ha ha
