good riddance 2008. surely things can only get better

What an awful year. Not withstanding impending bankruptcy
We lost two members of the family, the last just two days before christmas.
Was hoping to have a simple xmas with family, but I have spent the last four nights on the sofa after falling out with my wife. Life doesn't get any lower really. If things cannot get better from here I may as well just give in. Apart from that, hope you've all had a good christmas.

It's s
t when stuff like this kicks off, I know as I've had a fairly turbulent year myself with personal things, no work and relationship hiccups!Let's hope that 2009 brings a bit more luck for us all

I,Ve no doubt things in the economy will worsen, but at times like these it is family I need. But my dad is starting to fail, healthwise, and having a christmas with no real contact with the wife has given me a preview of life as a 'mcdonalds dad'. It sucks.
As you are a father make you sure you spend time with them as they will be your happiest memories.Unless you get to fly in a jet fighter.

I always find humour is the best way to deal impossible problems

I had a very s
tty 07, and really did hope 08 would be better. However that did not happen....and it turn'ed out to be just as crappy as the previous year, if not worse in lots ways.
However I am damn sure that 09 will be better (please Lord, I promise to be a very good girl)
Fight for the things you love, ignore the things you hate, and live with the things you simply can't change.
Chin up OP...at least it's the sofa, and not the garden shed

een more important than xmas. But I find
myself just wanting to go to the office, work late and let them get on with it without me. He'll still have a good time

My dad always used to work for my birthdays and was never really around. Have I resented him for it, absolutely. Only reason we talk to each other these days is over work.
I've never missed a birthday. But we've 'had it good' for years and now things are different. I think it might be good for my son to understand that sometimes, when times are hard you have to dig in and go to work, earn money and pay bills - as sitting back fiddling while Rome burns is not an option. He will still get his mum and all her family, loads of presents etc. He won't even realise I wasn't there. Anyway, the best cure for the blues is hard graft (or tranquilisers!) So I'm going to carpet my daughters room today while they're out.
Nothappy, it has been a truly miserable year for me too, however I refuse to let it get to me.
Pick yourself up off the floor, throw yourself into changing stuff. It sounds like some of the stuff that has happened to you has been out of your control, but what you can control, you can change. Dont take it out on the family if they aren't the direct reason for your misery.

Sorry to hear about your plight fella, I am sure you must have had some good times as well as bad in 2008? so bad days yes, bad year no? probably just seems worse because so many s
t things have happened at once and your missus isn't onside with you at the moment, it will come good, now get that carpet laid and forget the tranquilisers.

Then look at seeing what you can both do to avoid this
Use this crap time to benefit from it - talk about what is going on, and find a way of solving the issues that are there

It WILL get better, best of luck
