As almost everyone now knows that a sale advertised as "up to50% Off" means that the majority of items are nowhere near, I had to double check the following sale sign at Next:

"All Sale Items 50% Off or less!"

At first glance I thought it meant 50% off or cheaper, after a second read through I realised it said the same as "up to 50% off".

Any other 'clever' marketing tricks in this year's sales?

My local Budgens had some doughnuts with a hand-written 'only' after the reduced price.

Describing them as 'Up to 100% off' would also be true, because it covers any discount.

You could also market them as 'Up to full RSP' but that wouldn't look so good...

Doesn't that mean they would have to have at least 1 item at "100% off"?

Yeah, you're right, otherwise the discount would not be "up to 100%".

They could, however, give you a shopping bag for free I suppose
