Rekindled interest
Discussion
Having just recently had my interest in photography rekindled I thought I'd get some ideas & advice.
In the good old 35mm days I had the following kit:
Olympus OM-4Ti, OM-2SP
Zuiko 21mm, 28mm, 50mm, 75-150mm & Sigma 400mm APO
This set up covered me for just about anything & gave very good results. I also had a set of telescopic auto tubes for macro work. Actually still have all of this kit but would like to change to digital. Always used to the like the compact & light feel of the Olympus gear. The current decent kit all seems to be much bigger, which I'm not a great fan of. What sort of outfit should I be looking at as an equivalent set-up now? How does the quality of the current lenses compare with those old Zuiko's?? Do the new zooms offer the same drop off in quality when compared to the fixed lenses??
Al lot of questions any help would be appreciated, before I get taken in by some salesman!

If you go for a Nikon D40 (canon do an equiv), they are not too big at all. It's the pro stuff that is massive. If I put my D3 on the passenger seat of my car the warning 'beep' tells me a paaenger needs a seatbelt!
Prime lenses are still best, but modern zooms are WAY better that the plastic crap I was used to in my SLR days. I use a 24-70 2:8 and it's astonishing, to almost wide open.
You have to spend some money to get fast kit though.
Whatever you do, stick to Canon or Nikon - they have by far the best selection (and highest regarded) lenses.

You could always run hundreds, if not thousands(!) of rolls of film through the Olympus (and then scanning) for the amount you'll spend on new kit.... I flogged all my old Pentax film stuff (although same sort of setup and lenses as yours) for the grand sum of around £300 on ebay and then spent thousands on new Canon digital...
However, digital is what really 'rekindled' my photography interest so as Steve says, Canon or Nikon if you want the range but probably still worth considering Sony (Minolta lens fitting) etc too.
