domestic flights??

A mate needs to get from the midlands to Glasgow for a car shortly. Cost of train is £31 and takes 4hrs or so. Flights is £23 inc taxes.
Having never flown on domestic flights, only international, will he still have to clear customs etc?? as we are trying to work out which is the quickest and most hassle free way to do it. Just thinking of delays and queueing in Glasgow airport for customs etc.
Flights and trains both available on day required, and times suit, so its purely on hassle basis.

YOu still have to go through security to get into the airport, but domestic routes often don't have passport checks once you've landed. At Manchester for instance, you're taken to the domestic part of the terminal where you are herded straight into the baggage terminal.

If it's East Midlands Airport, be aware that the security section is dreadful if there's any more than 3 people trying to get through an hour. It seems big enough, but they never ever seem to have enough people about to open more than one or two lines. Not Gatwick sized queues or anything, but a good half an hour.
However, that said, if you choose the check-in online option (certainly available on BMI Baby who I believe fly that route) and travel with hand luggage only, then it's a close run thing, to be honest.
Time it right and you could walk in one airport and out the other 2 hours later with a 45 min flight.
No idea about the layout of Glasgow airport, but you do not walk through any form of customs when landing on a domestic flight at Edinburgh, East Midlands, Leeds, Manchester or even Heathrow, so I doubt you do there either.

Internal flight means you don't pass through the immigration desks (you are routed through another way). If you don't have baggage then you are straight through the baggage hall to customs channels, where unless you are unlucky and get pulled you will pass straight through. Time taken? How fast can you walk without looking suspicious?

I'm trying to remember if East Midlands has a separate take-your-photo & check boarding pass thing before the xrays. I don't *think* it does, but a lot of airports have had that put in for domestics, certainly Heathrow and Edinburgh.

Glasgow airport is pretty good - domestic arrivals are dealt with quickly. I used to pick my OH up there every Friday night for about 3 years and he would phone me to say his flight had just landed and then be with me in the car within 20 mins max (with no luggage of course!)
They did tighten up security a lot after the car bombing incident but it has been relaxed a bit recently so you should be fine.
