Have been considering this lens for a while, given all the compliments it gets from everyone but there is one thing holding me back. I have a 50mm f1.8 that my dad had on his Olympus OM4 that I use with an adapter ring (therefore manual focus). So the dilemma is that I have the same lens effectively, just without AF so is there point in getting another? How does optical quality compare as the canon's is said to be very good and is there anything that should sway me towards the nifty fifty?

Thanks

It's really the price that makes it a shoe-in into everyone's bag imo. If you've already got a useable 50mm, I wouldn't bother getting the 1.8. But the 1.4 is worth a look if you fancy splashing out more biggrin

About what I'd say.

For £60 or so you cant get a squarer sharper faster piece of glass for your canon (or nikon). But that doesnt make it perfect.

The canon one is a poor focuser and is soft f1.8-2.2, the bokeh is ropey and its built out of rice crackers painted black. Its also a nightmare to manual focus and unpossible with anything liek cokin filters on the end.

If you ahve a suable 50f1.8 I'd be looknig at either a 30mm or 85mm or the f1.4 sigma.
