Working in a house of pleasure for the first time.
Discussion
Well, someone has to.
Just so you don't get the wrong idea I had a job to do recently in a local establishment that caters mainly for men. By various means I managed to stretch it out over three days.....
I supply and install hot water heat pumps, and the owner of a local pleasure house wanted to reduce his energy bill. I reckoned that a fifteen hundred pound install will save him over five hundred pounds a year, so I got the job. (A hot water heat pump only uses about a third of usual amount of power needed to heat water, and this place uses over a thousand litres a day).
Well, I don't know about you but this was my first ever visit (in 51 years) to such a place - and I really don't think I've missed that much. (Mind you, I was in my teens when my mother first went into a fish and chip shop). Yes, Friday lunchtime was a strip show and there were a few naked women wandering about, but what sort of people (males?) visit such places? and why? Perhaps it's my age - but I can't see how I would ever go to such a place by choice (and most of the women weren't walking material either).
Presumably other people occupations takes them to some strange places - anyone got any anecdotes to share?

Not quite as exciting as working in a house of pleasure, but I had a job to replace the plumbing on a couple of sinks in a local undertakers. When I did the quote the manager was good enough to ensure the 'customers' were at least out of sight. I decided that the weekend would be a good time to do the work, as they were closed. But I had not anticipated that they are a 24 hour operation, and they bring new customers in all the time. I was asked to 'leave the room for a short while' I still have dreams about it, but somebody has to do it as it is part of life.

I thought brothels were illegal in the UK. Should you be working there?
In very simple terms, if there are two or fewer women, then it is not illegal. More than that and it is.I suppose it could be argued that by fixing the heating one is assisting or encouraging the commission of an offence.
But it would be pretty easy to argue that there was no common criminal intent.
The most significant issue these days would be that payment for the job would be from the proceeds of crime.
This would theoretically open the door to an action under the Proceeds of Crime Act against the OP.
In the grand scheme of things, the police have more pressing issues than criminalising heating engineers.
But in his position, I would not sign the brothel keeper up for a maintenaince contract.

A number of people were arrested eventually and sent to jail.

I was a bouncer in a brothel in Sydney for 'pocket money', a place called the 'Pleasure Chest'. Thought I knew a thing or two about a thing or two but a month there opened my eyes. Upstairs were the brothel rooms and the one toilet had a window out onto a flat roof - which was ankle deep in used syringes.
Hands in pockets all day, opening doors with my feet and mindful of any slippy stuff...
One lady came in with a shifty looking punter carrying a grocery bag, they went upstairs for five minutes then she's back down and out scoring. She gets back and goes up to see her punter. Ten minutes later she comes down with a cucumber saying that this guy wanted to slip it where the sun doesn't shine. Fair enough, if you don't want to do it, just give him the money back and he'll be on his way. 'Oh jeez' came the Melbourne whine, 'I've spent it all already', she wandered back upstairs muttering. Half an hour later she's back, whining again - 'Look, look at the feckin size of it' she said, holding this massive half a cucumber under my nose.
I tendered my resignation shortly afterwards......
