24k miles started to hear a nasty rattle, thought it was coming from the timing chains, could not work it out. Put an oil Pressure gauge on and on tick over it was 50 psi, pick the revs up and you get the rattle and pressure drops to 20 psi, rev it up a bit more and down to 10psi!!
Took engine out and got it stripped down, needs new bearings and crank re-ground. Obviously going to need to get slightly bigger bearings and oil pump etc.
Anyone know best place to get ford bits? Thinking uprated oil pump and stronger bearings too.

Is it not worth at this stage (as its out) going the whole hog and stronger pistons polishing and porting?

I think it was Jems that did Owen's

vandervell make big ends and main bearings for just about anything you can think of

your engine builder will be able to get them

are you changing pistons and rings at the same time ?

if you have a 2.5 - the 3.0 will fit and is quite a bargain from the usa

i suggest you speak to burtons - they do heaps of stuff for ford engines, see below

Cheers for that. There are a couple of places not far from me, XRN Engineering who did my honda head for mini, also federal mogul are just up the road too. Think ill try XRN on Monday and see what they can do. It is the 3.0 not 2.5. The rods look good, they are not standard ford ones, anyone recommend what pistons to go for?
Also as its so stripped down was going to look at getting a pair of T28 turbos, from the states...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT28-GT28R-Ball-Bea...

Any good?
Having only really built honda's and having a couple of other turbo cars not really up on the turbo front!

Probably get shot down but why change the turbo's? Think the T25's are good for M400 plus power with the usual exhaust and ecu mods. I would just refurb them while they are out.
My 3R also died about the same mileage.
If time/money allowed i would have liked to have maybe replaced all the hoses and got the ecu into the cabin while the lump was out

check to see if you have steel rods and the gudgeon pins are in good condition

some of the 3.0's have cast not forged pistons and i'm not sure they all have steel rods either

you may be able to get an engine from aer in the states for cheap money, but they have a higher compression ratio

the turbo's you have there look like this one - http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catel...

probably best to buy the turbo's here in the uk if you want a warranty

I know of one in the states that was tuned by a friend with similar turbo's it ran a 10 sec 1/4 mile on its first day out (with no 3rd gear !) and made over 500 bhp at the wheels at 1.5 bar boost. He said it was so fast it was just rediculous

the turbo is too big really and will be significantly laggier than you already have, however if you want power then you have no choice

IHI make a similar spec tubo with smaller exhaust housings that may be more suited

Olly didnt mention trying to make 600+ crank horses? Sounding like what is essentially just a standard rebuild the i would have thought the T25's would have been more than sufficient and investing the turbo money into a less restrictive exhaust and an aggressive ecu remap would result in much better results?

Hi, it does already have a Heyward and Scott pipe with no cats on it, so thats no problem.
Only bought it 6 months ago! but do fancy tweaking it up a bit.
They rods look quite nice actually, not taken out out yet and still got the heads on, crank is out.
Cant see a make on the rods but they dont look that bad, photos here... http://www.medcalf.nildram.co.uk/
I spoke to Burton Power yesterday and they said they can do T28's new for about £450 taking mine in exchange.
Guess I need to speak to some tuning guys about it really and pop a piston out and have a look at it. Think im going to get the oil squirters as well, cant believe they dont come as standard. The Honda engine that we built in my mini, is 10 years only they come as standard!

it it a 2.5 or a 3 ?

I've still got a load of 2.5 parts to shift !

The story of my similar experience is on this thread!

John Edwards at JEMS in Daventry did my internals. smile

Obes you said oil leak on rear turbo?
Was it from the feed line to the turbo or was the turbo shot?
I was quite happy to find no oil at all in any intake pipes on mine!

I think its just the standard sump? How can you tell?

www.medcalf.nildram.co.uk/Noble/sump.JPG

Big angular job!

The bits that look like bits on the photos are not bits of metal, its like bits of weld and they are stuck to sump!

Oh yea and its never been low on oil or anything, oil always clean too

does the car have a built in oil pressure gauge

was it reading ok ?

most oil pumps have a spring inside that regulates the pressure - had it failed on your pump ?

it may be possible to upgrade the spring and produce your own uprated pump
