Who are these loonies? and who did they get to test the damn things?
Right, before you go all "Daily Mail" it acts like an automate cruise control - tip the accelerator to make progress! Not saying I agree but it does not make a car "dangerous in the extreme".Link

So long as the device can be readily overriden I see no problems - I often use cruise control where there is a need to keep to the limit due to SPECS or whatever - easily cancelled or overriden where needed.
The danger comes if such a device were to be made compulsory - this would lead to 70mph clumps of traffic on motorways akin to elephant racing trucks which is hardly safe.

Exactly...voluntary becomes mandatory becomes dangerous. The danger comes if such a device were to be made compulsory - this would lead to 70mph clumps of traffic on motorways akin to elephant racing trucks which is hardly safe.
Everytime i read an article that has the words 'advisor' and 'government' in them i switch off as i can feel my piss starting to boil.
''The government's transport advisers claim the technology would cut road accidents with injuries by 29%''
How much of my money have they spent coming to this conclusion, how many deluded and warped statistics have they used without a hint of common sense or a sense of reality to draw up and release this absolute loads of b
ks.
