Hello all I have an old Sharp view cam about 7yrs old and basically collects dust these days, so was thinking I might put it to good use again and mount it somehow inside the Esprit for a track day coming up next month. The middle console at the rear, there is a small storage cavity for putting odds and ends in so was thinking of mounting something in there to hold it, this would give me a clear view out the font and possibly some driver movement as well. I want to put it somewhere where its not going to damage anything or fly off etc. Any thoughts on past experience or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

I've looked at and trialed putting a webcam on the front of the car next to the fog lights and feeding the cable into the cabin (USB). Its then possible to use a laptop to caputure using divx to reduce file size. Didnt get to take it on the road but think for a long term solution it would be better if mounted behind some plastic. Mind you as you can get Webcams for as little as £10 if it did get hit its no big deal.

If you do try this I recomend using a free bit of astrophotography software (K3CCD). Gives good caputre options including, Source, Codec, Resolution and frame rate. Have used it to capture a clouds, sunset and sunrise at 1frame/2seconds with fantastic results.

Rob C has already done the vid camera mounted centrally inside the cabin. Took a nice clip of 4 Esprits (including 3 Sport 350's) that went for a little jolly up the motorway en-route to Alton Towers the other week.

Might be worth asking him for details of the moutning method etc.

Do a web search as there are products for this application. If you make your own be sure to include a tether tie down to keep it from hitting you in a crash. The tripod mounts fail with just a little force so adding a nylon strap around the unit that is secured insures your heath. Also it will have to be held very firmly to avoid excessive camera shake.

Have fun on the track!
