Sky+ HD

Having had this installed this morning, some of the HD such as a programme about the big bang is excellent. What I can't understand is why are my SD channels twice as clear as well? Compared to how it was the SD channels look almost HD.

You'll notice some SD picture quality increase due to the fact you are no longer using a crappy scart cable. They are awful things!

I found this too when I had my Sky HD put in, double the benefit! Just a shame there's not more HD channels.

That said, I'm hoping BBC will be showing the F1 in HD next year!!

Out of interest does your HD box have a really noisy fan? We need to have the tv up quite loud to drown out the noise. I don't know if there is something wrong with the box?

I've never noticed a noisy fan at all, in fact it's almost silent. Maybe you've got a fault there?

I do, I think, it's either the fan or hard drive. Doesn't happen all the time or I'd have got a replacement.

I can hear mine. Put it this way, I wouldnt want it in the bedroom.
Someoen told me that if you disable "anytime" it helps.

Looks like mine is faulty - other than that I think the quality is awesome. Its become a good party trick for people new to HD.

Mine sometimes does this. However, turning it off and on again sorts it out.

I have been watching F1 in HD on ORF1 HD ...

Also the Sky HD bit rate can be low ....

Box was £99 with free fitting, it seems that the demand is such that there aren't many good deals about. It's then £22 a month + £10 for HD with everything apart from movies and sports. The reason being the sports I like aren't on Sky anyway and I can never be bothered watching a film and you have a few film channels anyway should I wish to. As well as Sky Box Office.

I didn't want a complete package as I wanted to keep my Virgin broadband (Sky is rubbish from what I've seen) and phone.

Sadly all of the sports I like are on Sky and Setanta

Sky Broadband has been excellent - I have the 16meg package with a true speed of 12meg - never had any issues with Sky in 5 years except for the price (£75 a month for two SD boxes, BB, Sky Talk) and I only really watch Sky Sports, Discovery and Terrestrial Channels!!)

What TV's do you guys have your HD sets hooked up to?

I'd like to add Sky HD but its this extra £10 per month that is a right rip off imo! I think at least with there only being a small number of HD channels, it means you can be quite specific with the mixes etc, but i'd predominantly only want it for the sports i think.

It's out of the Beebs hands if the F1 is HD or not, currently it's only produced in SD. So the feed on ORF is only upscaled and not a 'real' HD feed.
