You might need a new bonnet and gearbox

...and chassis!!! Wasn't the main reason for strengthening the chassis in the V8S beacause it was having a V8 in it?? If so the S1 chassis might be a little insubstancial??? Dunno for sure though?

Main strengthening between them seems to be extra bracing under the font of the chassis see here
There are other things like limited slip diff, wider track, different trailing arms, rear discs. I think you may get away with the bonnet as it really doesn't accomodate anything lumpy under the bonnet.
Try it and see, but it may be worth just buying a V8S, one gone up tonight for £9.5K in the classifieds.

Hello
I am in the process of making this conversion to my s1 If you stick with injection it will fit under the standard bonnet. I am staying with the ford gearbox(hope it's strong enough) I did have to make some chassis mods I moved a cross brace at the front foward and made new engine mounts.

How about looking at the chassis differences (s1 to V8S) in the bible and then adding the additional bars for strengthing using that as a guide.

Good luck in your project. I reckon its gonna be a fun one!

If you do decide to go ahead, please make lots of notes and pics on what you did and how and why as I am sure they will come in very handy for other peoples future projects.

I'd be very surprised if this turns out out to be a 'cheap' way to get V8S performance, I suspect it will take an awful lot of time or money or both to get a safe reliable car (I assume that's what you're after?), but if the conversion is something you want to do then good on you, go for it. As well as stiffening round the engine bay and the wider track, the chassis round the diff is different on my V8S compared to my old S2. Obviously you will have spotted things like LSD, disc brakes all round, different suspension settings to handle the power safely, different exhaust, engine management. No idea how strong that Ford gearbox is, but you'll soon find out one way or the other. Along with other potential weak points in the transmission that really you can only find by trying it. Best of luck with it anyway.

the v8 is carbs but dont think ford gearbox will last after your first meet with a porsche because you wont be able to not give it a go.

Yer maan Mr (Screech/greenV8) Humphries has more experience than most of putting more power than was originally intended into an 'S'.

My sixpennyworth is not to bother if you wanbt it to be a 'cheap' upgrade. While it is technically possible and quite interesting in an engineering sort of way. You'd be better served to start with a V8 in the 1st place...
It is a knock on effect all the way down the line.
