I haven't had many chances for a hoon since moving to the North East but was in the mood to treat myself today so, using Evo 127 Pages 80-85 as inspiration, took the 182 on a visit to the North Pennines.

Wow, the triangle I came up with from their suggested route was awesome, way exceeding expectations:

Hexham > Alston > Eggleston > Edmundbyers > Hexham

A686 > B6277 > B6278 > B6306

Wooded hairpins, open moors, stone bridges, postcard perfect towns with cobbled streets. Couldn't get any better.

Just wish it was summer already- altitude and clear skies meant temps down to -7C at one stage...

Same hairpin as on Evo Pages 84/85 ^

A Viz icon on the way home...

The aftermarth...

Thanks for looking smile

Wow - looks amazing smile
The NE is a pretty good place to be for good roads I'm assuming. South, West and North all lead to quality driving areas! smile

Shay, absoutely. I hadn't really considered it when planning the relocation but now see it as a significant plus point to this area.

Trouble is now I can't stop planning future cars. scratchchin

Any of the five roads in & out of Alston are "quite interesting".

The annual Beamish car rally also runs over some interesting roads.

Not that cold then, still shorts and Tshort weather for some
of the locals ...

BTW, I can't place the hairpin picture - any clues appreciated.

Been up there today planning a run out with some others.
Barnard castle, - Alston - Hexham, back down to Barnard Castle and finish with a coffee at the Bowes Museum. Grand.

DCB this might help you picture it -

Again - I was up there at 9am ish and it was in the minus temps (Hence the roof!), very snowy and icy. In fact - on the 3rd hairpin up that hill (the one in the first pic by the OP) I got waaay sideways without meaning to on minimal throttle, right in front of the only other people I'd seen in about 30 miles paperbag

I am in danger of giving away too many secrets here,
but I find these nearby roads quite interesting

1. Eggleston to Stanhope
2. Westgate to Newbiggin
3. Middleton to Brough
4. St John's Chapel to Langdon Beck

Extra points for a pint in the Langdon Beck Hotel
and a stroll to Cow Green reservoir and Cauldron Snout
waterfall.

You wuss ! When I took my MX5 over the A66 one January many
years ago there was a foot of snow on the side of the road and
I *still* had the roof off.

Mind you, a woolly hat and the heating on full blast helps.
