What to look for when buying used lenses
Discussion
I've recommended this before but I'd say get the 450D with 18-55 IS. Even Jessops have it advertised at the moment for about £430 and you get a £50 cashback making it £380 or so which is a steal.
If you also want a longer lens I'd see who does a deal for the Canon 450D with 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS.
As long as you learn some basics regarding composition, exposure, aperture settings, focal length and a few other things from a good beginners book you'll find the 450D and kit lens are capable of stunning high quality images.

Make sure if your buying a used lens that it works properly.
It should focus OK, stop down for shots (no sticking aperture blades), zooms should be smooth, should mount fine. No mould or damage to the glass and 'acceptable' levels of dust inside etc.
If you cant see the lens beforehand and are buying online etc make sure you ask these questions and if possible get new/ercent shots from the lens itself, and make sure it can go back if it doesnt measure up to whats been said.
Ultimatly so long as its not mis-sold (and you pay a decent price) you can always shift it on again with no loss.
