xk8 handbreak cable/replacing

my hand break cable has snaped at the bottom of the lever, had a quick look and is seems like where it connects to at the rear to split to two ends is at the other side of the car slightly and that it doesnt just run along the bottom of the car either, it goes up into the floor pan, is this a diy job? im thinking theres a tube or something that the cable can be pushed through, am i right and i hope a am lol. or will this require lifting the carpet ect? and how much will a cable likly be ? thanks people
